Davis Arney is a Ridgewood, Queens-based artist who was born in Boulder, CO. Broadly, his practice navigates a space between cataloging and world building, using the histories of still life and trompe’ l'oeil painting as a foil to question present-day issues of illusion, value, and taste. He earned his MFA from Boston University in 2021, for which he received a full tuition merit-based scholarship. He was awarded a 2024 grant from FST StudioProjects Fund, nominated for a Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant (2023), was a finalist for the Hopper Prize (2019), and has received three grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (2019, 2021, 2023). His work has been featured in the Brooklyn Rail and New American Paintings among other publications. Davis’s work has been shown at galleries including My Pet Ram (NYC), Pio Pico (Los Angeles), Entrance (NYC), Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Brooklyn), Trestle Gallery (Brooklyn), Greene House (Brooklyn), Alpha Gallery (Boston), Dairy Arts Center (Boulder), and Miami University (Oxford, OH). He is a member of the artist-run gallery Below Grand located in downtown New York.
